Common Question about the Memento Mori DayZ server. A Q&A
It's not hard to join, just a process.
The Memento Mori server is a DayZ server just like any other. However, there are some key differences that might confuse players if they are new to the community. Here are some commonly asked questions pertaining to the most hardcore survival multiplayer server.
Q&A
Q: What is Memento Mori?
A: Memento Mori is a hardcore DayZ server with a twist. No respawns! The moment you die, you'll be banned from the server and unable to play until the server wipes.
Q: Is the Memento Mori server free to play?
A: It is completely free to join. However, donations are accepted to help keep the server maintained and serviced. The admin team likes to be completely transparent with their community regarding monetary needs. It costs $33 a month to run the server, or about $100 a season. Donations can also take on the form of purchasing extra lives after a two-week dead period.
Q: What does Memento Mori mean?
A: It’s Latin: Remember death. This serves as a reminder to the community that life is short, and it offers no do-overs. Live life to its fullest, for one day, we all experience death. Memento Mori is both the name and motto of it's community.
Q: How often are server wipes?
A: The map and player-data are wiped at the beginning of each new season. Think of seasons like a competitive game, such as Apex Legends or Rocket League. Each season comes with a unique mechanic to add fun and variety for its players. A season will last 90 days. At the time of writing, the Momentum Mori server is currently in Season 6.
Q: How do I join?
A: With a small process, joining is very simple and easy.
Step 1: Join the Discord.
Step 2: Read the About section and Rules.
Step 3: Validate your membership with your Steam identification.
Step 4: Join the open Voice Channel.
Once you complete all the steps, you will be able to connect to the server using your choice of the server browser.
Q: Do I have to be in the Discord voice channel when I play?
A: Yes, there are two main reasons why players are required to be in the Discord voice channel. When you are in the voice channel, you are deafened and muted and placed in your own private channel. This ensures you will only be able to communicate with friends and teammates using only in-game mechanics. Believe us when we say that this is by far the more fun method of playing the game. Secondly, It allows the admin team to monitor alive and dead players each season.
Q: Is the experience vanilla?
A: No. While it is as close to the original game as possible, the server still uses mods that help to manage or otherwise promote a hardcore survival experience.
Q: How hardcore are we talking?
A: Just like any hardcore DayZ server, you'll be limited to only first-person view. But the Memento Mori creators took the liberty of adding more challenges. Zombies are more numerous and more dangerous, eliminated some key 'video gamey' mechanics to enhance realism, and also extended the day cycle to 21 hours.
Q: Why are the days and nights so long?
A: Put simply, for difficulty and immersion. This means players have more fun-time in the sun and have a more difficult-time at night.
Q: Why 21-hour day cycle and not 24?
A: The server originally had 24-hour day cycles, but due to time zone differences, many players could only get online during the dark hours of the day. So it was changed to 21 hours, or an 8-day week, to ensure everyone across the globe can experience variety. One week you might experience mostly day, and the next week you will experience mostly night.
Q: Is the server available on Xbox or PlayStation?
A: No, the Memento Mori server is only available on PC. But the creators hope to host Xbox and PlayStation servers someday.
